Understanding Mental and Emotional Wellbeing
Addiction and Freedom: Understanding Dependency Through Gurbani and Modern Recovery
This course offers a complete framework for understanding and overcoming addiction by holding two lenses at once: the diagnosis of Gurbani and the findings of modern recovery science. Gurmat locates the root of every dependency — substance, sexual, digital, financial — in ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ, the infinite thirst governed by ਮਾਇਆ, ਲੋਭ, ਮੋਹ, and ਕਾਮ, and reads the addict not as a moral failure but as a soul reaching for the Infinite at the wrong address. Across twelve lessons we examine drugs and alcohol, pornography, social media, and gambling through both neuroscience and Gurbani, then turn to the prescription: ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ as neurological and spiritual healing, ਸੰਗਤ as recovery community, and ਸੇਵਾ as the outward focus that breaks the self-absorbed loop. Far from opposing professional care, the course integrates AA/NA, therapy, rehabilitation, and medication as complementary tools, and equips families to support struggling members with compassion and boundaries. It closes by framing relapse within ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ and Divine ਬਖਸ਼ਿਸ਼, charting the long, hopeful road from bondage to freedom…
